Newspapers

1983-1995 General Assignment Reporter, Life and Style Section, Los Angeles Times. Writing on range of subjects including education, sports, minorities, religion, youth, health and consumer issues. Finalist, 1995 University of Missouri Lifestyle Journalism Awards, Consumer Affairs Category.
1975-82 Executive Sports Editor, Minneapolis Tribune Directing coverage. Hiring and evaluating employees. Devising budgets. Extensive copy editing. Covering major league baseball and other sports. Winning two regional writing awards. Writing frequently on black and female athletes.
1972-74 Reporter, Associated Press, Los Angeles bureau. Writing sports and news stories at one of largest AP bureaus.

Teaching

1984-present Adjunct Professor of Journalism and Adviser to Student Newspaper, Whittier College. Advising ethnically diverse staff of award-winning newspaper on writing, reporting, editing, layout, design and ad sales. Teaching classes in reporting and issues in mass media.
1994-2008 Adviser, school newspaper, Whitney High School, Cerritos Advising gifted, ethnically-diverse students on writing, reporting, editing, design.
2006-09 Advisor, student newspaper, California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Advised ethnically-diverse staff on writing, reporting, editing, layout, design, and recruiting of personnel.
